A Bit of Herstory: In my more distant progressive past, my first year in college 1962, I experienced Ayn Rand as thought provoking in the extreme unto creating terrible headaches, lasting intellectual and moral confusion, and some degree of "cognitive dissonance" about my personal motivations, beliefs and goals in life for myself and for others. In retrospect, she was the first of the "double-talkers" and "word twisters" I would encounter in literature and "public life," whom I was warned about in the books of George Orwell I read in high school.
